"Treating Older People the Way We Want to be Treated When We are Old"

My Start in Care Center Ministry

My start in Care Center ministry began in January of 1997.

Before this time, it was suggested by two friends that I would be 'good at nursing home ministry'. At that time the idea was intimidating.

I was encouraged by two seasoned servants of the Lord to help them in their ministry to residents of Vallhaven Care Center in Neenah, Wisconsin. The two gentleman left earth for Heaven at ages 90 and 88 years old.

After the older man left for his Heavenly Home, I gave a memorial message in his honor. The ministry team at that time, told me there was no reason to look for some one else to share the Gospel with these residents. That affirmation gave me new confidence. The younger man, Max Ross, began this ministry in 1987. Six months before he died he asked me if I 'would keep this ministry going'. I was already giving messages, alternating with a new friend. I told Max, "I am going to need your prayers." He answered, "I already pray for you every night." He had become a spiritual father to me.

A mutual friend of ours was receiving materials from THE SONSHINE SOCIETY. At this time, she herself was a shut in, so she gave me what she had collected. I have ordered many relevant materials from them since that time.

Since that time, God has led me to find many resources and support for nursing home ministry. They are all listed on this site.

Praise God for people who are experts in helping others in a very important ministry to elders who have been almost forgotten gems.

In service to a Loving Savior, Jesus Christ as His willing servant.
