Merry Heart came about because I found some silly poems I wrote at a Writers Conference in 1996, at Green Lake, Wisconsin.
I wasn't sure what to do with these. There is nothing spiritual about these poems. Most of them were written as assignments in my writing classes. Then some one reminded me about the verse in the Bible that talks about having a merry heart.
Ministry in Care Centers and Nursing homes or similar facilities remind us again and again, that these elderly friends need some humor or silly stuff in their life once in awhile. Laughter is like medicine. It improves our circulatory system. Many times laughter puts a stop to depression that may be coming on, because of loneliness. Laughter has been known to heal uncurable diseases.
Feel free to use these silly poems or stories in your care center ministry, if you know it will create smiles and laughter.
Use humor with the Word of God, as long as it is not hurting some one's feelings. Laughing perks up our shut in friends and helps them focus on pleasant things around them or pleasant memories of things they've done in their younger years.
I add to the list the alliteration haiku I wrote recently after getting seven inches of snow which will bring back memories of Winter.
Thank you for spending time with our special friends.
