'Don't Mess with Mother Nature'

In awkward haste we try to hide
the heelmarks of our frenzied dance.

We shove our piles of caustic waste
and shreds of beauty we have torn
beneath excuses as they ride
progressive waves of circumstance.

We care not that we leave no taste
of purity for those unborn.

Do we assume the earth's immune
to lifeblood drained, to screeching sounds
of steel claws gouging through her crust?

We have been warned that one day soon
we'll learn we've overstepped our bounds
and breached conditions of our trust.
