Who is Barbara
I am a contented "keeper of
the home", Bible teacher and homeschool mother of four
children. Three of our children have already graduated
from our homeschool and are successfully pursuing college at
the present time.
I began
writing my devotions to minister to my friends, who like me,
are survivors of polio. At the age of seven (1955) a
month or so after I had the first Salk Vaccine, I contracted
bulbar/spinal polio and was hospitalized for six weeks.
The doctors were not certain I would survive as I
could not swallow or raise my head. In fact, I could
not turn over in bed without assistance.
God had other plans for me
though. One day, while my parents waited outside my
hospital room, I prayed and asked God to let me go home.
He did and after many months of rest, therapy and
recuperation, I made a complete recovery.
While I have always had
difficulty in swallowing after that acute phase, I recovered
my strength and ability to pursue a very active lifestyle.
I went to college, married a wonderful Christian man
and was blessed to have four children.
Like many survivors though,
I began to notice fatigue, muscle weakness and pain in the
early 1990's. In 1995, I received the diagnosis of
Post Polio Syndrome. However, the Good News is that
Jesus is Lord and while I may not be able to be as active as
I once was physically, God opened another avenue of service
for me in writing devotions.
I pray that you will be
blessed by the things which I share here and that you will
also visit the other webpages that are linked to mine.
These are my friends who love the Lord as I do.
Many of us have overcome polio once and now, we are
learning to be overcomers once again as we face Post Polio
Syndrome.
May the Lord bless
and keep you.
